Dawn Over Zero - Musical Mastery

Dawn Over Zero-Musical MasteryThe first thing that strikes me about Dawn Over Zero is the sheer musicianship of the band.  They have the type of proficiency over their instruments that is required to play their particular and complicated brand of Alternative/Rock/Metal music.  However, when the band is playing that is exactly what they are doing - playing.  The true downfall of this type of music is when a band has to concentrate too hard on the technical aspect of what they are doing and therefore can not just let loose and actually rock.

That is what Dawn Over Zero does so well….they truly rock.

The voice of Mike Mears mixed with the guitar melodies of Jared Mears is one of the real strengths of the band.  Nathan Machart’s bass and Mack Linan’s drums create an incredible bottom for Mike and Jared to sing over.  I’ve heard the band compared to Incubus and King’s X, but I also see them as a band that fans of Metallica would like.  Mears definitely has similarities to and shows the craftsmanship (as well as the musicality) of Kirk Hammett.

The band is based out of Austin, TX (which is not surprising at all).  Austin is a great music town and a perfect place for this band to find a following and then get out on the road.  Right now all the tour dates on their schedule are limited to Texas, but probably the right idea until they get on the right tour as a supporting act.  Hopefully they could find themselves a spot on the WARP Tour as I’m sure they would make a welcomed addition.
